Summer Projects

I am on break now before my Fall classes start again, but over the summer months, I was lucky enough to be teaching at OSU and taking classes. It also provided me with a little bit of time to get some projects that I was working on completed.

The first project came in the form of a exhibition that I was in due to being in a class that was about Space/Time/Site Specificity in it's regards to the art making process. We had some good readings, in particular, one reading a reading called One Place After Another by Miwon Kwon.

For the exhibition, we had 72 hrs to work inside of the gallery and produce work on site while keeping in mind our current work and the readings we had done for the class.

Here is my statement from the show.

My work’s relation to the ideas of time, space and place come from different reference points; one point being my interest in Hollywood films. I consider myself not only a consumer, watcher, recipient, and victim [of mass media and pop culture]. But also a user of that media and culture: I am a chooser, interpreter, shaper, fellow player, participant, and storyteller (Gerard Jones, Killing Monsters). As such, my idea of the site exists less in the physical location, but in the “sequence of events and actions through spaces, that is, a nomadic narrative whose path is articulated by the passage of the artist (Miwon Kwon, One Place After Another). The second referential point to time, space, and place comes directly from the society in which we currently live. In John A. Walker's book Art and Celebrity he states, they [celebrity magazines] are a vision of utopia, one may conclude, that provides readers with a refuge from harsh realities and the boring routines of everyday life. While not necessarily escaping some sort of miserable existence, I am examining the space in which ones hopes, dreams, wishes, and desires may become a reality.
